How can we start each day with a grateful heart? How do we teach our students, children, and ourselves to be grateful for what we have? Having an attitude of gratitude shifts our focus from what we lack in life to appreciating what we presently have in our lives.

Make showing gratitude extra special, by offering extra credit points for doing one or more of the following over the Thanksgiving break (for credit, ask them to take a picture of themselves doing "the act" and ask them to email it to you before returning to school).
  1. Clean up after Thanksgiving dinner.
  2. Bake a pie and bring it to a neighbor with a note that says we are so grateful you're our neighbor.
  3. Put hidden notes of gratitude under each place setting.
  4. Put together a powerpoint presentation of what they appreciate about their family and ask them to show it at their Thanksgiving dinner.
  5. Write in a daily gratitude journal - you can download a printable copy here.
  6. Volunteer at local a homeless shelter or soup kitchen on Thanksgiving Day.
  7. Encourage them to brainstorm a list of people in their neighborhood that are having a hard time making ends meet. Ask them to put together a bag of food and anonymously deliver it to them.
  8. Create a video presentation on what they are grateful for and present it to the class.
  9. Host a Friendsgiving lunch or dinner.
  10. Bring a pie or plate of cookies to a local hospital, fire station, police station, or elderly home.

    Note From the Founder

Hello. I am the founder of the 21 Day Kindness Challenge Program.
I believe if we focus our efforts on helping our young people develop good character values and teach them how to listen with their hearts their world will be a kinder place to live. It is my hope that my story inspires others to “be the change they want to see in the world.”
